MBBS stands for the combined Degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Undoubtedly MBBS is the toughest and one of the most renowned bachelor degrees. Not only amongst all the fields but also in the science stream as well it is the most designated and valued. But all this recognition and respect comes from hard work of years of studying and practice. It needs high efforts and focus from the students as well as the teachers. The students not only have to grasp all the theoretical and practical knowledge but also have to go through the pressure of handling tough situations of life and death. They are prepared to stay emotionally strong to face hard situations and their mental stability is tested at every point. No doubt it is a high paying and respectable job but at the same time it has many duties tied with the perks.

Educational Qualification Required-

Only students who have secured a minimum of 50% marks (in general category) or 40% marks (in reserved category) in 10+2 examination are eligible to apply for the mandatory Entrance Exam for studying MBBS.

The eligible candidates then need to appear and clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test that is NEET or AIIMS Entrance Exam. The candidates who are shortlisted for the MBBS programs that year are then allotted seats in different medical colleges on the basis of scores, preferences, etc.

Course Details-

The undergraduate program of MBBS has a total duration of 5.5 years which includes 1 year of practice as an intern. However, recently the Government has announced the increase in duration of the program.

Career opportunities-

The MBBS course takes the students through the full anatomy of the human body to finally get a job as Doctor. But it also opens up opportunities for many sub-fields like-

  • Chemistry
  • Medicine
  • Drugs formulation
  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The candidates who want to study further in specific fields can finally become a renowned specialist and surgeon of that body part. The candidates can get employment as a medical professional in Government as well as Private hospitals once they have got the practice license. The candidates can also start their own clinic after attaining a legal license. If someone doesn’t want to continue a doctor, they can work in sectors of Public Health, Hospital administration, Medical Transcription or Medical Publishing.

Monetary Benefits-

It is known to all that this one of the most prestigious, noble and well-paying professions. In recent times the increase in the variety of diseases and hazards due to various reasons has also increased the demand for doctors. Increase in demand is directly proportional to the monetary income of doctors. On an average the starting annual salary for doctors in Government sector is 3 lakh rupees and that in private sector is 5 lakh rupees. One should also consider that the course is also very expensive in comparison to other bachelor degrees.

Scope-

This is one such profession all around the globe that cannot go out of work considering the global scenario. Pollution, climate change, unhealthy lifestyle, bad eating habits are some of the reasons that effect physical and mental health of human beings. To deal with any of these, one needs to visit a doctor at some point or the other. Hence, this occupation is renowned globally and is also one of the highest paying jobs. The future of this profession is very bright and also very profitable.
